Wild World by Bastille

bastille-wild-world-compressedInformation: Wild World by Bastille is an album that was released in 2016 by Virgin Records.

Summary: Wild World was released in 2016 to kick off their Wild, Wild World Tour. Bastille is an upbeat band with lyrics that are mostly relationships and daily struggles. This particular album has an ambiguous subject for its songs. Many songs direct to the anger and disappointment of today’s political climate. With such polarizing elections and voting decisions being made around the world, Bastille has become the voice of many with this new album.

Critical Evaluation: Wild World is a beautiful album, put together with countless science fiction, literature, and other pop culture references. This album shows how so many of these subjects can shape how we see our world today. With a mixture of piano, drums, and acoustics, Bastille takes their fans on the ultimate ride of today’s political climate.

Readers Annotation: Wild World is a music cd by the band Bastille. It is the second complete album that covers the major political struggles and emotional distress of the world.

Author’s Information: Bastille debuted in July 2010 with their limited edition 7″ single that featured the two tracks “Flaws” and “Icarus”. Released through London-based independent record label Young & Lost Club, only 300 copies were pressed. One of those copies found its way into the hands of Alex Baker, presenter of the unsigned/independent artists radio show on Kerrang! Radio. Baker immediately started heavily supporting Bastille on air, and the band began to find an audience. This was followed by the self-release of the EP Laura Palmer later in 2011. After debuting further tracks online through sites such as YouTube and MySpace, the band’s audience started to grow. In December 2011 Smith signed a contract with Virgin Records. The group subsequently secured a few support slots, most notably Year of the Fox, and later performed at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight, Redfest Reading and Leeds Festival and Blissfields. The band also recorded and released a two part mix-tape titled Other People’s Heartache for free (Bastille).

Selection Policy

The System will select and maintain a comprehensive collection of print, non-print, audio visual and electronically accessed materials to meet the informational, educational, and recreational needs of the citizens of Sarasota County. The System will strive to offer wide ranging collections that meet the various ages, interests, educational levels, and cultural backgrounds of all members of the community and will provide collections through which an individual may explore all points of view and issues of interest. In making selections, the library staff will do so based upon principle rather than personal opinion, reason rather than prejudice, and judgment rather than censorship. Furthermore, staff will be responsive to public demand for materials of contemporary significance and interest, while balancing this with the need to collect and preserve materials of permanent value. While library staff makes material selections based upon the tenet of one system, one collection, selectors recognize the distinct characteristics and needs of the populace that each library services. Community profiles are used to guide selectors in efforts to develop special collections and to meet the unique patron needs within each library.

The ultimate responsibility for selection materials rests with the General Manager of Libraries and the Management Team, who in turn delegates selection responsibilities to the Collection Development Librarians (Sarasota County Policy).
